A group of scientists arrive on a remote Pacific island to investigate what became of the previous team, which was sent out there as observers of American hydrogen bomb tests and disappeared without a trace. They island is uninhabited and devoid even of most animal life, except for a few land crabs. The group is lured into the caverns where the real menace is hiding -- gigantic, bloodthirsty mutated land crabs that communicate telepathically and seem to have all of the knowledge of the previous team's members. Strangers rarely come to Whitewood...and for good reason. For it's inhabited with witches and warlocks...and Christopher Lee! He's absolutely menacing in his role of Professor Driscoll. Horror Hotel (aka: The City of the Dead) is a just an old fashioned horror story, it's even kind of creepy. I think this one is all about the atmosphere; a dark and rickety hotel located in an aging New England town that boasts an excellent use of fog that would make John Carpenter envious. It's something to be seen. Horror Hotel is slightly dated, but not too shabby. A beautiful exotic dancer named Jeanette Moreneau is disfigured in a car wreck after her boyfriend Pierre breaks up with her. Jeanette is later visited in the hospital by a mysterious woman named Monique, who tells her of a doctor who can repair her scarred face. Jeanette goes to the doctors home and is subjected to injections of his "Derma-28" serum. Professor Levin is a mad scientist experimenting with radiation and various chemical concoctions in his basement lab. Unfortunately, Derma-28's healing effects are only temporary, causing Prof. Levin to seek fresh glands from living. To do this he transforms himself into a hideous monster. A millionaire is married to a greedy gold digger who refuses to divorce him. When he turns his wife's idea for a haunted-house party into a contest--$10,000 to whoever will spend the night in "the only truly haunted house in the world"--it seems he may have found an alternative to divorce. Five strangers gather to test their stamina, Price hands each of them party favors (loaded handguns, delivered in their own tiny coffins), and the spook show begins. Blood drips from the ceiling, zombielike apparitions float through rooms, severed heads and skeletons suddenly appear, and then a guest is found hanging in the stairwell. Gangster Alexander Ward, his girl friend, Gypsy Boulet, and two henchmen come to Deadwood, South Dakota with the idea of stealing a few gold bars. They enlist the aid of a local ski instructor, Gil Jackson, and plan to use him as a guide out of the territory after the robbery. However, a blizzard forces them to take refuge in Jackson's cabin, where Gypsy lowers the inside temperature by giving the cold shoulder to Ward, her former sweetie until she saw Jackson. Ward don't care, as he plans to kill Jackson after they have no further use of him. But they had used an explosion in a cave to serve as a distraction during the heist, and this explosion had irritated the big spider that lived there and, sure enough, all hands have to seek refuge in the cave from the fury of the storm. Dracula is now passing himself off as D.D. Denham, a property developer operating out of offices built on the site of the now demolished St Bartolph's church. Meanwhile, government security agency SI7 is investigating the mysterious PERGE (Psychical Examination and Research Group) and the presence at its headquarters, Pelham House, of prominent industrialists, politicians and scientists. When one of their agents gets out of Pelham House, albeit fatally wounded, with tales of Satanic rituals, Special Branch officer Murray calls in Lorrimer Van Helsing as a consultant. Together they learn that one of the men, Professor Julian Keeley has developed the aforementioned strain of bubonic plague for Denham, whom Van Helsing of course reveals to be Dracula. I've had many requests for this DVD. There are 3 shows spanning 30 years. The first is the only remaining show I have from WJAN-TV in Canton, OH, (1971). I was 16 years old at the time and it shows! So give me a break. The second show was recorded at WOAC-TV in 1985, and the third is a Halloween sprecial I did at WOIO-TV in Cleveland in 1992. All the Ghoul bits are intact but there are no movies. The movies are bad anyway. Come to think of it, so am I! There are 3 bonus bits at the end. I actually go through both attractions and show you some of the highlights and the people associated with both.
